There was a battle of stars tonight on the diamond…only problem for the home team is that both stars came from the New York Yankees. Alex Rodriguez has been plauged for years of having the title as a “choke artist” in the playoffs, but has truly shown that he is capable of providing offense for an entire team. A-Rod is 6 for 16, with 3 homeruns and 5 RBI’s in the ALCS and has basically sealed every game the Yankees have won. It seems as if C.C. Sabathia has had to prove time and time again that he is worth the money that the Yankees paid for him and tonight, he added another chapter to his stellar year. Sabathia pitched 8 innings, allowed 5 hits, gave up 1 run and had 5 strikeouts to put the Yankees up 3-1 in the ALCS to a struggling Angels team. If you ask me, the two superstars in the playoffs have gone hand in hand. Sabathia is there to bail the team out of a jam, or to pitch a big game on short rest when one is needed, while Rodriguez steps up to the plate and with one swing of the bat provides the offense for his team. If all things go well, A-Rod and C.C. will lead the Yankees into the 2009 World Series and the quest for their 27th championship. Judging by the results of the past playoff games this year, it is important the Rodriguez and Sabathia both stay as hot as they have been, one can only think where the team would be without them.
